"Perfect" Photos
As a photographer, saying not all your photos need to be perfect may seem a little confusing. But what do we define as perfect? Eyes open, smiling at the camera, everything in focus. Sure, those photos are historically great photos. If you stop and think for a moment though, how many photos have been discarded as imperfect and for what reason. It was a little blurry? Someone smiled so hard their eyes weren't open? Are those imperfect? Or are they perfectly unique moments caught on camera that help evoke the emotion of your wedding day?
It's a unique idea to think about because on one hand, your photographer should be able to produce high-quality, stunning imagery. On the other hand, there's ways to manipulate camera settings to create blurred and cinematic effects. Lastly, there are those last ditch effort moments. Where maybe I'm at a wedding taking a sip of water when i see something happening across the way and lift my camera to snap without thinking and hoping for the best. Will that photo be perfect? Probably not. Does that mean it's not worth including in the gallery? Possibly not!
Imperfect photos often times feel the most raw
Whether it's trendy or not to add grain, produce blurry imagery, or frame photos at a certain angle - often times these types of photos happen on a whim. Captured mid-moment for the most raw-feeling imagery you might receive in a gallery. Does it's flaws mean it should be deleted? Truthfully, I don't think so. As so it's not an excuse to include poor imagery. It should be paired with sharp, accurate to your photographer's style imagery, to bring the whole story together. Wedding photography is not only making your wedding day look as beautiful as it possibly can. It's also about retelling your story through creative imagery as an art form, and that's what makes it feel most special.
